How much does TypingMind make? (Founder-reported revenue, 2026)

By Cydel Giraudel · Data checked Oct 16, 2026 · How we verify

Short answer

TypingMind makes about $130,000–160,000 a month, according to founder Tony Dinh's October 2025 newsletter, and December 2025 was its best month at $210,000+ (his Jan 1, 2026 post). That is well over $1M a year from a chat app for LLMs that started as a weekend project in March 2023. These are the founder's own numbers, not processor-verified. Self-reported

We checked on Oct 16, 2026. The founder hasn't posted a newer TypingMind revenue figure since Jan 1, 2026; his 2026 posts are about new side projects. TypingMind has no public TrustMRR listing (we tried, and it returns 404), so we label everything here self-reported. See how we label evidence.

WhenMilestone
Mar 6, 2023MVP ships; first sale the same day
Mar 2023 (first 7 days)$22K total revenue, including a #1 Product Hunt launch
Aug 2023$6K MRR from subscriptions (team "Custom" plan at $79/month); first $20K B2B contract
Feb 2024$500K total revenue; subscription revenue at $15K MRR
Nov 2024$1M revenue in the trailing 12 months (20 months after launch)
Oct 2025~$130–160K per month; B2B team revenue over 50% of the total
Dec 2025$210K+ revenue, the best month so far; 8,000+ new customers in 2025

Over the 12 months to November 2024, revenue averaged about $83K a month ($1M ÷ 12, our calc.). By October 2025 it was ~$130–160K a month, and by December 2025 it was $210K+. That makes TypingMind roughly 2x larger in a year (our comparison of his reported figures).

How does TypingMind make money?

TypingMind is a chat interface for large language models (LLMs). It began as a better UI for the ChatGPT API: at launch, users brought their own API key and paid once for the app, and it had no backend, so hosting cost "almost nothing" (founder). Revenue comes from two products:

  • Lifetime license for individuals. Still sold on the homepage as "Get a lifetime license". The founder wrote in Nov 2024 that license sales volume "has been increasing over the past 20 months and never actually going down", mostly from Reddit mentions, word of mouth and his Twitter profile.
  • Team / B2B subscriptions. Companies use it as an internal AI platform, with SSO, usage limits and their own branding. In 2023 this started at $79/month. By Nov 2024 he had closed a 3,000-seat deal and several 1,000-seat deals, and spent $20K+ on SOC 2, HIPAA and GDPR compliance to win them. By Oct 2025, B2B recurring revenue was over half the total.

The lesson in the numbers: one-time sales got TypingMind to $500K in about a year. B2B subscriptions are what moved it past $1M a year, because a lifetime license only pays once.

What marketing worked for TypingMind?

Building in public on Twitter. He launched with a "my weekend project" tweet and tweeted every new feature, calling that his "entire marketing strategy", and he says 99% of early sales came from that reach. A Product Hunt launch on day 5 hit #1 Product of the Day. Paid ads haven't worked: about $2,000 on LinkedIn Ads in 2024 for $0 revenue, and $600 for 2 conversions in 2025. In his words, "I've been attempting other marketing channels from time to time, but so far, nothing has worked for me." The full go-to-market notes are in the TypingMind case study.

Can you build a business like TypingMind today?

Partly. Timing mattered: TypingMind shipped five days after OpenAI opened the ChatGPT API, and its founder already had a large Twitter audience. A plain "better ChatGPT UI" is crowded now. What still carries over is the business model: charge individuals up front to fund the product, then sell the same product to companies on recurring contracts. FAQ

How much does TypingMind make?

Founder Tony Dinh wrote in October 2025 that TypingMind makes about $130,000–160,000 a month, and posted on January 1, 2026 that December 2025 was its best month at $210,000+ in revenue. Both figures are self-reported; TypingMind does not publish processor-verified revenue.

What is TypingMind's annual revenue?

More than $1M a year. Tony Dinh reported $1M in revenue over the 12 months to November 2024, and wrote in October 2025 that TypingMind was "making more than $1M a year". At the Oct 2025 run rate of ~$130–160K a month, that is roughly $1.6–1.9M a year (our calculation, not a reported figure).

How does TypingMind make money?

Two ways: a one-time lifetime license for individuals, and recurring subscriptions for teams that use TypingMind as their internal AI platform. By October 2025 the B2B team revenue was over half of monthly revenue (founder newsletter).

Is TypingMind a one-person business?

It started solo. The founder brought in a freelancer within weeks of launch in 2023, and by late 2024 described teammates on sales calls, a sales hire and a design agency. Headcount is not published.

How did TypingMind get customers?

Mostly word of mouth and the founder's Twitter audience. He tweeted every new feature at launch and says nothing else has worked as well: a 2025 paid ad test cost $600 for 2 conversions, and a 2024 LinkedIn Ads test spent about $2,000 for $0 revenue.
